Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle, the SU7 sedan, has outpaced Tesla’s Model 3 in sales in China over a ten-month period, marking a significant milestone for the technology company’s automotive expansion. Data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) shows that between April 2024 and January 2025, Xiaomi delivered 162,384 units of the SU7, surpassing the 152,748 Model 3s sold by Tesla during the same period.
Xiaomi, known for its consumer electronics and smartphone business, entered the electric vehicle market in April 2024 with the launch of the SU7. The company quickly gained traction, selling 7,058 units in its first month—enough to outsell Tesla’s Model 3, which recorded 5,065 deliveries in April. The SU7 continued to build momentum, with total sales exceeding 30,000 units in the first three months. However, Tesla remained ahead during this period, selling 38,446 Model 3s.

As the year progressed, competition between the two models intensified. Tesla’s Model 3 maintained its lead from July through September, with 52,052 units sold compared to 39,790 SU7s. However, Xiaomi saw a notable surge in demand in the final quarter of 2024, when it recorded 69,697 SU7 deliveries—significantly outpacing the Model 3, which saw 52,241 units sold in the same period. December proved to be a strong month for Xiaomi, with 25,815 SU7s sold, marking its highest monthly sales to date.
For the first time, total sales of the Xiaomi SU7 have surpassed Tesla’s Model 3 in China since deliveries began in April 2024.

The upward trend for the SU7 continued into 2025, with 22,897 units sold in January. While this figure was lower than December’s, the seasonal impact of the Chinese New Year holiday typically causes a temporary decline in vehicle sales. In contrast, Tesla’s Model 3 recorded 8,009 deliveries in January, further widening the gap between the two models.

Building on the success of the SU7, Xiaomi is preparing to expand its EV lineup with the upcoming YU7, a crossover SUV that aims to compete with the Tesla Model Y. The new model was previewed in December and is expected to enter one of the most competitive segments in the Chinese auto market. In 2024, the Model Y was China’s best-selling vehicle, with 480,309 units delivered.
Xiaomi’s entry into the EV industry has positioned it as a strong challenger to established automakers, with its competitive pricing and technology-driven approach appealing to Chinese consumers.
