Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra has broken the Nürburgring lap record for production electric vehicles, achieving a time of 7:04.957 and surpassing the previous benchmark set by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, the company’s chief executive said on Tuesday.
The milestone was announced by Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun on Chinese social media platform Weibo. According to Lei, professional driver Vincent Radermecker piloted the SU7 Ultra to the record on April 1, narrowly outperforming the Taycan’s previous best of 7:07.55 set in September 2023.

“I believe this record will be broken again in the near future,” Lei wrote, sharing a timing sheet from the race track to mark the occasion.
The record-setting feat comes just months after Xiaomi launched the SU7 electric sedan in March, positioning it as a direct rival to Tesla’s Model 3. The production version of the SU7 Ultra was released in late February with a peak output of 1,548 Ps, placing it among the most powerful EVs in the Chinese market.
Priced from RMB 529,900 ($73,740), the SU7 Ultra commands more than double the starting price of the base SU7, which retails for RMB 215,900. Despite its premium cost, the model has generated strong consumer interest. Lei said on March 2 that the company had received 19,000 firm orders for the SU7 Ultra, with more than 10,000 units already locked in—surpassing its annual sales target.

The Nürburgring result follows an earlier test by a prototype SU7 Ultra in October 2024, which completed a lap in 6:46.874, becoming the fastest four-door car to circle the German circuit at the time.
Xiaomi has also teased plans to diversify its EV lineup with the upcoming YU7, the company’s first electric SUV. Unveiled on May 22, the YU7 is expected to officially launch in July, although pricing has not yet been announced.
