Wiesbaden German state-owned Transport company ESWE Verkehr has taken delivery of the 100th Mercedes-Benz eCitaro electric bus from Daimler IVU Traffic Technologies Bus company. Three years ago ESWE only ordered 56 units, but the volume of orders has increased to 120 electric buses.
In addition to electric buses, ESWE also ordered a package of operational facilities for public transportation, one of which was a battery charging station, construction of a transformer station to convert electricity from medium to low voltage and at the same time installing cables on site.
In collaboration with partner company Daimler Buses IVU Traffic Technologies, the charge management system will also be supplied from Berlin. “Three years ago is still a pioneering achievement. Now the flagship project has matured and has been implemented by Daimler Buses in various forms with other companies,” the company ESWE wrote in its official statement.
“It was an honor for me to be able to hand over the keys to the 100th eCitaro to ESWE Verkehrsgesellschaft today,” said Rüdiger Kappel, Head of Sales, Public Transport Germany at Daimler Buses. “ESWE Verkehr is a long-standing customer with whom we have taken our partnership as a bus manufacturer to a new level.”
The vehicle now being delivered is the eCitaro as a two-door solo bus, equipped with a WLAN router, USB socket and Brake Assist and Sideguard Assist assist systems, among other features. A solid-state battery with a total capacity of 441 kWh is also installed. In Wiesbaden, certified and sustainable green electricity is used as a principle, the statement continued.
Wiesbaden-based mobility service provider ESWE Verkehr operates local public transport in the capital city of Hesse with more than 290 buses. They operate on 43 routes and carry more than 61 million passengers a year, according to the information. The majority of the company’s fleet consists of Mercedes Benz Citaro buses.
