Mercedes-Benz showed off an impressive new feature of the EQG electric car, which is the G-Turn, also known as a tank-like 360-degree turn. The EQG electric concept car is an all-electric version of the premium off-roader G-Wagon.
This ability is shown in a new video released by Mercedes-Benz recently. The feature shows the EGQ electric truck turning on its four wheels and creating a vortex of dust that grinds it up.
The EQG electric car does the trick using its quad motor powertrain, which allows it to apply torque to each of its four wheels independently. Then, the two sides move in opposite directions, making it rotate 360 degrees, like a military tank.

It’s arguably an impressive demo of US automaker GMC’s Crab Mode, which allows its all-electric Hummer EV to drive diagonally. The ability to perform “G-Turn,” allows the massive vehicle to actually rotate around its own axis.
The EQG isn’t actually the first electric truck capable of such stunts. EV startup Rivian showcased a similar “tank spin” in 2019.
It’s unclear whether the EQG will actually be able to perform its action when on a harder surface like asphalt. Of course moving the wheels in different directions on the asphalt would be very difficult.
“We still don’t know much about Mercedes’ new off-roader. This (electric vehicle) will go on sale in 2024, and is rumored to start at (price) around USD150,000,” according to Car and Driver quoted by SINDOnews from the Futurism page, Wednesday (25/5/2022).
The EGQ concept is an electric version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which is known as a medium-sized four-wheel-drive luxury SUV. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a true offroader SUV.

This car is in the same class as the Land Rover Defender and Jeep Wrangler. The G-Wagen is characterized by its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. When Mercedes unveiled the Concept EQG in September 2021 at the Munich IAA event, there was also talk of a shiftable two-speed gearbox featuring a crawler gear.
Another key feature that the electric G-Class will get is an optional lithium-ion battery pack with silicon anode chemistry to achieve greater range thanks to higher density cells. The engineers targeted a 20-40 percent energy density increase to exceed 800 Wh/l at the cellular level and significantly increase the range.
