Volvo Trucks North America has issued a recall for certain 2023-2025 Volvo VNR Electric trucks due to a potential safety concern with the high-voltage battery packs.
The recall affects 13 vehicles equipped with BorgWarner Akasol Gen 3 batteries, which may contain loose hardware inside the battery pack.

This issue was discovered following an incident in January 2025, prompting an internal investigation. Although no accidents or injuries have been reported, Volvo is taking proactive steps by replacing the affected battery packs to ensure safety.
The root cause of the issue has been traced to inadequate manufacturing process controls at BorgWarner Akasol’s Hazel Park, USA facility.
The defect could lead to short circuits, which may result in thermal events and an increased risk of fire. Drivers will be alerted to the problem through the vehicle’s battery thermal management system, which will display a warning on the instrument cluster and driver information display.
