Volkswagen has introduced the ID. EVERY1, a compact four-door electric hatchback set to launch in 2027 as its most affordable EV, with a starting price of 20,000 euros ($21,500). The vehicle will be the first in the automaker’s lineup to integrate software and vehicle architecture developed by U.S. EV maker Rivian, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The ID. EVERY1, alongside the ID.2all—a separate model priced around 25,000 euros and scheduled for release in 2026—will form part of Volkswagen’s new category of urban electric vehicles. Both models are being developed under the company’s “Brand Group Core,” which focuses on high-volume EV production for the European market.

Although Volkswagen did not mention Rivian during the unveiling, the automaker emphasized that the EVERY1 would feature a “fundamentally new, particularly powerful software architecture.” Kai Grünitz, a member of Volkswagen’s Brand Board of Management responsible for technical development, highlighted the vehicle’s ability to receive continuous updates.
“This means the future entry-level Volkswagen can be equipped with new functions throughout its entire life cycle,” Grünitz said. “Even after purchase of a new car, the small Volkswagen can still be individually adapted to customer needs.”

The integration of Rivian’s technology follows a $5.8 billion joint venture announced last year between the two companies. Under the agreement, Rivian will supply its electrical architecture and software to Volkswagen, helping the German automaker accelerate its EV development while providing Rivian with a financial boost and business diversification.
Volkswagen said the ID. EVERY1 will have a top speed of 130 km/h (80 mph) and a 70 kW electric motor. It will offer a range of at least 250 km (150 miles) and feature a luggage compartment capacity of 305 liters. Though still in the concept stage, the EVERY1 represents Volkswagen’s push to expand its affordable EV offerings.

“The ID. EVERY1 represents the last piece of the puzzle on our way to the widest model selection in the volume segment,” said Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand. “We will then offer every customer the right car with the right drive system—including affordable all-electric entry-level mobility.”
