Vietnamese public transport operator VinBus has added 169 electric buses to its fleet in Ho Chi Minh City, replacing internal combustion engine vehicles across nine routes as part of efforts to reduce emissions and modernise urban mobility.
The buses, supplied by VinFast, include the EB 6 and EB 8 models. VinBus said the vehicles are designed to navigate dense urban corridors and congested neighbourhoods, including central routes such as Ben Thanh and Le Hong Phong.
The EB 6 is a compact 6.2-metre bus capable of carrying up to 29 passengers, while the larger EB 8 accommodates up to 60 passengers. Both models are equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery systems and support fast charging at up to 120 kW.
The EB 6 features a 140 kW motor and a 179.5 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 340 kilometres, while the EB 8 uses a 200 kW motor paired with a 359 kWh battery, delivering a range of over 290 kilometres.
VinBus said all 169 buses are equipped with onboard amenities including Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, security cameras and passenger information systems. The company also enables real-time journey tracking through the Xanh SM platform.
The latest rollout builds on earlier deployments, including the replacement of 58 diesel buses on two routes, as the operator scales up electrification in line with the city’s broader environmental goals.
Nguyen Cong Nhat said the transition improves both service quality and sustainability. “The complete conversion of 9 bus routes to electric buses provides Ho Chi Minh City residents with more convenient, safe, and comfortable transportation options, while also contributing to accelerating the greening of the city’s public transportation system,” he said.
The expansion is part of Ho Chi Minh City’s long-term plan to transition its bus network to electric and low-emission vehicles.
