French automotive supplier Valeo has introduced a new electric compressor with an integrated inverter, developed specifically for use in electric buses. Unveiled at Busworld in Brussels, the EDC-120 marks Valeo’s first entry into the electric bus component market, with production planned to begin in China in 2026.
Valeo said the EDC-120 was engineered to meet the unique demands of electric buses “in terms of performance, energy efficiency, and reliability.” Electric compressors play a key role in thermal management systems, helping to maintain optimal battery and cabin temperatures. While detailed specifications were not disclosed, Valeo noted that the new unit builds on its existing electrification technologies, including motors, inverters, DC/DC converters, and heat pumps.

The move signals Valeo’s expansion from its core focus on passenger cars and light commercial vehicles into the heavy commercial segment. The company said it plans to adapt its broader range of electrification products for electric buses as well. Production in China reflects the country’s leading position in electric bus adoption.
“At Valeo, we are leading the electrification of the automotive market,” said Claudine Rochette, Vice President of Strategy and Communication for Valeo Power Division. “With the launch of the compact and powerful EDC-120 electric compressor, Valeo drives into the electric bus market. This segment is expected to continue growing worldwide, and Valeo’s ambitions do not stop at the electric compressor.”

The new development follows Valeo’s 2024 restructuring, which merged its powertrain and thermal management divisions to form Valeo Power, aimed at streamlining operations and strengthening competitiveness. The company employs about 106,100 people across 28 countries and is listed on the Paris Stock Exchange. Valeo is showcasing its latest technologies at Busworld Brussels from October 4–9, in Hall 7, Stand 785B.
