Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup has expanded its footprint in Southeast Asia’s electric mobility sector, as subsidiaries V-Green and Green GSM Philippines signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with MERALCO, the Philippines’ largest power distribution company. The agreement aims to jointly develop and implement electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and services, including taxi hubs, public charging stations, and renewable energy-based solutions.
Under the MOU, the three parties will collaborate on identifying potential sites for charging infrastructure and taxi depots across Metro Manila and other key urban centers. The initiative also includes evaluating the deployment of solar-powered charging systems, developing technical expertise, and delivering training programs to support a local EV workforce.
V-Green, known as the exclusive charging partner of VinFast in Vietnam, brings experience from operating over 150,000 charging points nationwide. Recent developments, such as the opening of Hanoi’s largest fast-charging station with 42 DC fast chargers, reflect the company’s capacity to scale infrastructure. Green GSM, a ride-hailing service powered by VinFast vehicles, launched in the Philippines in July and is expected to benefit directly from expanded charging availability.
“This partnership between V-Green, MERALCO, and Green GSM will create meaningful and positive change in the Philippines’ urban transportation landscape,” said Nguyen Thanh Duong, CEO of V-Green. He emphasized the importance of integrating renewable energy into EV infrastructure to support sustainable mobility.
MERALCO CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan highlighted the alignment of the partnership with the country’s broader energy and transportation goals. “This partnership brings together our collective strength in infrastructure, technology, and experience that will redefine our cities and our communities,” he said.
The agreement signals a broader regional effort by Vingroup to advance electric mobility beyond Vietnam, leveraging strategic partnerships and existing expertise in fast-charging technology and fleet operations. While specific timelines for project rollouts were not disclosed, the collaboration is positioned as a foundational step toward establishing scalable EV ecosystems in the Philippines.
