Transdev Nederland has placed a new order for 55 battery-electric buses from Solaris, expanding its zero-emission fleet in the Netherlands. The order includes 42 Urbino 9 LE units and 13 double-articulated Urbino 24 buses, with deliveries scheduled for the second half of 2026, the Polish bus manufacturer said.
The contract was commissioned by the Province of Gelderland to support public transport operations in Arnhem, Nijmegen, and the Foodvalley region. Transdev Nederland, which currently operates 50 bus lines and carries around 30 million passengers annually, aims to fully transition its fleet to zero-emission vehicles in the coming years.
The Urbino 9 LE models will feature a battery capacity of over 400 kWh and will primarily serve intercity routes between smaller towns. The 24-metre Urbino 24 buses, equipped with 500 kWh batteries, are expected to operate on high-capacity urban corridors. The entire fleet will be integrated with Solaris’ eSConnect system for remote monitoring and energy management.
This latest order follows Transdev’s October 2024 purchase of 96 electric Solaris buses for Utrecht, which are due to be delivered by the end of this year. Transdev subsidiaries already operate Solaris hydrogen and trolleybus models in various parts of the Netherlands, reinforcing the operator’s commitment to cleaner, sustainable public transport across the country.
