Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons said it has partnered with Quebec-based charging operator FLO to install fast chargers at 100 of its restaurants nationwide by the end of 2028, in what it calls the largest EV charging rollout by a restaurant chain in the country.
The companies said the project will span all ten provinces, with each site hosting two FLO Ultra fast chargers, featuring two charging ports per unit. The chargers share up to 320kW of power, allowing up to 160kW per vehicle when both ports are in use. FLO says its Ultra system can deliver as much as 120 km of driving range in about 10 minutes, depending on vehicle and station configuration.
Tim Hortons said its first site is already operational in Regina, Saskatchewan, with work underway on 13 additional locations scheduled for completion by year-end. The rollout aims to reach 50 sites by 2026, with full deployment targeted by 2028. FLO said part of the installation is being financed through its $220 million CAD loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, announced in 2023, to support the development of 1,900 public fast-charging ports across the country.
“By installing FLO Ultra chargers at trusted, well-visited locations, we’re not only building the reliable infrastructure EV drivers need but also empowering Canadians to confidently accelerate their transition to electric mobility,” said Louis Tremblay, President and CEO of FLO.
“Our planned rollout will make Tims the largest restaurant provider of EV fast charging in Canada and we are targeting installations in all 10 provinces to provide coast-to-coast coverage for our guests,” said Hope Bagozzi, Chief Marketing Officer for Tim Hortons.
