Thomas Built Buses has launched the second-generation Jouley, an electric school bus designed to meet the evolving needs of sustainable student transportation. The updated model features the 14Xe eAxle from Accelera by Cummins and an 800-volt Proterra battery system, enhancing its performance and efficiency.
Production of the 219-inch wheelbase version, which can seat up to 60 passengers, has already begun, with additional wheelbase options set to be available in 2025.
While details on the range and charging capacity were not disclosed, the first-generation Jouley offered a driving range of up to 150 miles, with a 246 kWh battery that could be charged in 2-3 hours at a DC charging station. The second-generation model aims to continue this focus on efficient, sustainable transportation solutions for schools.
“We are proud to introduce the second generation of our Saf-T-Liner C2 Jouley, a product that reflects our commitment to innovation, meeting the evolving needs of our customers and driving the future of sustainable student transportation,” said T.J. Reed, president and CEO of Thomas Built Buses.
Brian Wilson, general manager of eMobility for Accelera, emphasized the significance of the 14Xe eAxle in raising the bar for industry standards in performance, efficiency, and serviceability, marking an important step in advancing electric school bus technology.
