Hyundai is preparing to relaunch its electric fastback, the Ioniq 6, with a series of key upgrades aimed at better positioning it as a contender against the Tesla Model 3.
The refreshed Ioniq 6 will feature a more efficient 84 kWh battery, extended driving range, and built-in compatibility with Tesla’s Supercharger network via a native NACS (North American Charging Standard) port.
First unveiled at the 2022 Busan International Motor Show, the Ioniq 6 was introduced as Hyundai’s sleek “electrified streamliner” and a potential Tesla rival. Despite its competitive specs—over 350 miles of estimated range and rapid charging—the model has struggled in the U.S. market. Sales of the Ioniq 6 dropped 6% year-over-year to just 12,264 units in 2024, compared to 189,903 Model 3 units sold by Tesla during the same period.
Now, Hyundai appears ready to reposition the Ioniq 6 as Korea’s longest-range electric sedan. The new model has been officially certified with a range of up to 568 km (353 miles) by Korea’s Ministry of Environment, surpassing the Kia EV4. The refreshed version is expected to deliver over 350 miles of EPA-estimated range in the U.S., up from the current 342 miles.
On the WLTP scale, that figure could approach 700 km (430 miles). In addition to the new battery, Hyundai has redesigned the Ioniq 6 to enhance aerodynamic performance and visual appeal, previewing the updated look at the Seoul Mobility Show in April. A sportier N Line version has also been spotted testing in Korea.
