Hyundai Motor UK has announced that the Kona Electric now qualifies for the highest tier of the UK’s Electric Car Grant (ECG), making the all-electric crossover eligible for the full £3,750 government incentive.
The upgrade follows a review of the model’s environmental supply chain and manufacturing credentials, increasing the available grant from the previous Band 2 level of £1,500.
Full Government Incentive
With the revised classification, customers purchasing the Hyundai Kona Electric will receive an additional £2,250 discount, bringing the total government incentive to £3,750.
The updated grant reduces the model’s starting price from £35,000 to £31,250.
The UK introduced the Electric Car Grant in July as part of a £650 million programme designed to accelerate electric vehicle adoption while encouraging manufacturers to improve the sustainability of their production processes.
Unlike previous purchase incentives, eligibility is based not only on vehicle price but also on verified environmental standards covering battery production, vehicle assembly and supply chain decarbonisation.

Hyundai said the Kona Electric secured its upgraded grant status after successfully demonstrating improvements in the environmental performance of its manufacturing and supply chain.

Two Battery Options
The second-generation Kona Electric is available with two battery configurations.
The entry-level version features a 48.4kWh battery paired with a 156PS electric motor, while the long-range model combines a 65.4kWh battery with a 160kW powertrain.
Hyundai says the larger battery variant delivers a driving range of up to 319 miles (513 kilometres) under the WLTP testing standard.
