Tesla’s newly launched Model Y L has seen a surge in demand in China, with orders exceeding 120,000 since its debut last month, according to a company salesperson in Beijing. The first batch of deliveries began this week, the representative added.
“(The Model Y L) is selling very well. Since its launch, 120,000 orders have been received, with nearly 10,000 orders placed every day. The first batch of customers began receiving deliveries in the past two days,” the Tesla salesperson told Chinese outlet Cailianshe.
China remains the world’s largest and most competitive electric vehicle (EV) market, where Tesla competes with domestic automakers offering a wide range of battery-powered SUVs. The Model Y has been among Tesla’s strongest sellers, and the longer, more spacious Model Y L is aimed at families seeking greater interior room.
“Although the Model Y L is a bit more expensive, it has more space and a more flexible rear seat, making it perfect for families with children,” the salesperson said.
The boost in orders could lift Tesla’s third-quarter sales in China, where local rivals including BYD and Li Auto are vying for market share in the premium SUV segment.
