Tesla has announced that it is developing a new method to keep the cameras on the Cybertruck clean, a common issue that affects the performance of its advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS).
This problem has been reported by many Tesla owners, especially when using Autopilot or Full Self-Driving (Supervised) features, which frequently issue alerts about “one or more cameras being obstructed” due to dirt or snow accumulation on the lenses.
The issue is more significant for the Cybertruck, where the rear-view camera is the primary method for viewing behind the vehicle when the tonneau cover is up. Some owners have voiced concerns, especially during the winter months, when they must remember to clean the camera before using the vehicle.
Tesla has acknowledged these concerns, responding to one owner’s inquiry on its ‘Tesla AI’ account on X about potential solutions for unsupervised self-driving capabilities. Tesla assured that a more comprehensive camera cleaning solution is in development but did not provide further details or a timeline for when it would be available.
On a more serious note, a more comprehensive cleaning solution is being worked on

This follows Tesla’s 2019 patent application for a technology that would use laser beams to clean debris from its vehicles automatically, including cameras. However, no updates on that patent have emerged.
Tesla has indicated that it plans to achieve unsupervised self-driving capabilities in California and Texas by the second quarter of 2025, although recent data suggests that timeline may face significant challenges.
