esla’s Semi truck, though not yet in mass production, continues to push the boundaries of electric Class 8 vehicle capabilities. A recent sighting in Nevada showcased the vehicle being tested with twin tandem trailers, a first for the Tesla Semi.
A video shared by Tesla Semi advocate @HinrichsZane revealed the test configuration involving two containers pulled by a single truck. Twin tandem trailers are often used to optimize efficiency when transporting varied goods. The advocate also noted that Nevada permits even triple trailer configurations, raising the possibility of Tesla testing such setups in the future.
Tesla Semi First – Two Tesla semi’s pulling tandem trailers. I see lots of Tesla semi’s around Giga Nevada but this is a first.
Tesla is now testing tandem trailer configuration. Triples are legal in Nevada. Probably won’t be long until we see them testing them. pic.twitter.com/Nnmh2VaVKQ— Zanegler (@HinrichsZane) January 5, 2025
The Tesla Semi boasts impressive specs, including a range of 300 or 500 miles per charge at a gross combination weight of 82,000 lbs, depending on the variant. With energy consumption of less than 2 kWh per mile and three independent rear-axle motors, the truck delivers highway speeds in 20 seconds even when fully loaded.
Tesla began limited deliveries of the Semi in 2022, and production is expected to ramp up significantly with the completion of a dedicated factory in Nevada later in 2025. The facility aims to produce 50,000 units annually once fully operational.
I was scoping out the place Friday, was hoping I’d run into you. Security folks are really nice, recognized me as a harmless tourist from Vermont and let me gawk. pic.twitter.com/tHUqfOB8NM
