Tesla introduced a prototype Class 8 electric truck, called the Tesla Semi, in November 2017 in California. At the time, Musk said production would begin in 2019. Companies like Walmart and FedEx claimed to have placed orders.
The Semi electric truck is expected to be fully distributed in 2019. However, until 2020, the truck will still be produced in limited quantities due to component problems.
And now in 2022, Tesla is starting production in total because it can control the component supply chain which has been constrained by the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, there will be no more delays in distribution.
In the Tesla Semi, what is of concern is that the driver’s seat is located in the middle of the cabin like a sports car. That’s because it’s for the sake of getting good visibility, and in America truckers generally walk alone.
This steering wheel can also be adjusted tilt and telescopically, this makes the driving position more ergonomic and also suitable for various driver postures. The payload or the maximum load that can be towed/transported by the 2021 Tesla Semi Truck is 40 tons.
Figures 40 tons, is in accordance with the regulation of the maximum load that can be transported in America. If this Tesla truck is used while pulling a trailer with a maximum load to accelerate from 0-100 km / h, it can be reached in just 20 seconds.
Just like other Tesla vehicles, this truck is also equipped with Tesla Autopilot integrated safety features. This Tesla Autopilot relies on 12 ultrasonic sensors that can cover 360 degrees of this truck.
This truck relies on four electric motors embedded in each of the rear wheels. The battery is also supplied from Panasonic with a Lithium-ion type and can charge from 0 to 80% in just 30 minutes.
Elon Musk in his presentation claimed the truck can cover a maximum distance of about 800 kilometers. Moreover, the acceleration, to run from 0-60 miles / hour (about 100 km / hour) Tesla Semi Truck is able to complete in just 5 seconds without pulling the trailer.
