Tesla plans to roll out an update to enable the B-Pillar camera on its Cybertruck as part of its Sentry Mode security feature, addressing a gap that owners have been requesting the company to close for months.
The upgrade, expected in an upcoming software release, will enhance the pickup’s ability to monitor surroundings and deter vandalism.
Sentry Mode, available across Tesla’s lineup, turns the vehicle into a mobile surveillance system, recording incidents occurring nearby. While the system has aided in solving crimes such as vandalism and theft, the Cybertruck has been missing support for the B-Pillar camera since launch. This omission left one of the most frequently targeted vehicles in the United States without the same level of coverage as other Tesla models.
“It will come soon! Cybertruck was not 100% carryover in execution like SX3Y so it required work,” said Cybertruck Vehicle Program Manager Siddhant Awasthi. “Team has finished work on this and just need to make sure it’s validated and runs reliably (which it should for its feature).” The delay, Tesla said, stems from technical differences between the Cybertruck and other models such as the Model S, X, 3, and Y, which share more similarities in design and features.
The upcoming B-Pillar camera activation follows earlier instances where the Cybertruck required additional development to receive features available in other Tesla vehicles, including Full Self-Driving capability. The update is expected to be delivered over-the-air in the coming weeks, strengthening the electric pickup’s security suite.
