A camouflaged Tesla Model Y prototype, believed to be part of the automaker’s “Juniper” project, was spotted in San Jose, California, fueling speculation about an upcoming update to the electric SUV.

The vehicle, painted black and equipped with Gemini Dark Wheels designed to optimize range, was seen with its front and rear ends heavily camouflaged. Tesla enthusiast Colin W. shared a short video of the prototype on social media platform X, adding to similar sightings in recent months across several countries.

While Tesla has been tight-lipped about any updates to the Model Y, the SUV remains the company’s best-selling vehicle globally. Leaks and reports from China suggest a refreshed Model Y could debut with design tweaks, such as a rear trunk featuring a red light bar. An updated five-seat Model Y is rumored to launch in early 2025, followed by a seven-seat variant later in the year.

The Model Y’s dominance in the EV market is clear. It was the world’s best-selling vehicle by volume last year and continues to outsell the Model 3 in markets like China, even with its current design. Analysts believe that an updated Model Y could significantly boost sales, reinforcing Tesla’s position as a global EV leader.
