In a recent assessment by Norwegian publication Motor.no, the upgraded Tesla Model 3 secured the title of “Best Car You Can Buy” in the family car category, outperforming contenders such as the VW ID.3, BMW i4, and Hyundai Kona. The accolade extended beyond its category, with the Model 3 trumping winners in other segments, like the Peugeot e-208 and BMW iX50.

The refreshed Model 3, known as Project Highland, showcased notable enhancements, including a reduction in cabin noise, earning praise for its “outstanding driving characteristics.” The improvements in interior quality, featuring new materials, RBG lighting on the dash, and a revamped rear screen, contributed to the overall positive evaluation.

However, the recognition came with a dose of realism, as Motor.no highlighted Tesla’s inconsistent ownership experience. Auden Bergerud, a technical consultant at the Norwegian Automobile Federation and a panel judge, drew attention to persistent quality control issues, particularly with paint and moisture in taillights, echoing concerns from previous Tesla models.

“There are primarily problems with the paint and moisture in the taillights that are repeated on the Model 3 – and Model Y. Many also experience that the communication with Tesla is poor, that almost regardless of the problem, they get an answer that this is within the standard,” Bergerud noted.

The Model Y, also subjected to Motor.no’s scrutiny, secured victory in the medium-size family car category, surpassing competitors like the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6, and VW ID.4. While not claiming the overall “Best Car You Can Buy” title, the Model Y’s recognition in its segment highlighted Tesla’s continued presence in the evolving electric vehicle market.
