Tesla has commenced production of its refreshed Model Y, codenamed ‘Juniper’, at its four automotive manufacturing facilities: Grünheide near Berlin, Shanghai, Texas, and California. The company announced on January 31 that production has “now started” and is occurring “simultaneously” across all four factories.
The updated Model Y was unveiled on January 10 on Tesla’s website in Asia, with orders opening that same day. Two weeks later, the order books were opened in Europe and North America. The first deliveries are scheduled for March.

Notable design changes in the ‘Juniper’ model include narrower headlight units and a continuous LED light strip at the front. Technically, the vehicle retains its 400-volt architecture.

The majority of Model Y ‘Juniper’ vehicles are expected to be produced at Tesla’s Giga Shanghai, which has an annual capacity of over 950,000 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. The Fremont plant, with a capacity of over 550,000 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, and Giga Berlin, with a capacity of over 375,000 Model Y vehicles, follow in production capacity. Giga Texas has a split capacity, producing 250,000 Model Ys and 125,000 Cybertrucks annually.

A Tesla plant in Germany confirmed that it had started production on January 14, indicating that the facelifted model has been rolling off Tesla’s production lines since then.
Tesla has not specified the exact dates when production began at each of its factories. The company’s social media post from January 31 only states that production has “now started” and is occurring “simultaneously” in all four factories.
The ‘Juniper’ update is not considered a revolution in terms of technical specifications, as it retains the 400-volt architecture of its predecessor.
