Tesla has implemented a new sales strategy, which was exclusively reported by Electrek in the summer of 2021. The automaker has moved away from high-rent locations in malls and shopping districts and shifted towards delivery centers and remote test drives. The strategy primarily focuses on online sales, but Tesla has recognized that physical presence is still necessary to enable test drives.
Previously, Tesla assigned a “Tesla Advisor” at local stores to help customers with the process leading up to the delivery. However, the company started to assign orders to “virtual sales advisors” not assigned to any specific stores. Customers could go to cheap remote test drive locations with Tesla vehicles in parking lots, where they were walked through the basics and could test drive the vehicle for 30 minutes.
Tesla has been gradually implementing this new strategy in North America and has now expanded it to Europe, with its first remote test drive hub location in Sweden. Customers can book an appointment on Tesla’s website, call upon arrival, and the vehicle is remotely unlocked for them. This allows Tesla to operate these locations with minimal staff, only requiring that vehicles stay clean and charged.

Tesla has already seen success with the new strategy in the US, and the automaker’s expansion into Europe suggests that the company is happy with the results and is ready to implement it in new markets. With the help of virtual sales advisors and remote test drive locations, Tesla is revolutionizing the car-buying experience and providing customers with a convenient and personalized approach to purchasing a vehicle.
