Volvo Trucks Officially Opens Orders for Heavy Duty Electric Trucks

Sweden's leading truck manufacturer, Volvo Trucks, has now officially opened orders for its line of heavy-duty electric trucks consisting of the Volvo FH, Volvo FM and Volvo FMX.

The Volvo FH Electric and FM Electric electric trucks are targeted by Volvo Trucks as versatile electric haulers for local (short-haul) transport tasks.

While the FMX Electric can be used on off-road terrain, so it can be used in a wider variety of applications, although especially in the construction industry.

Serial production will begin in the fall at Tuve's CO2-neutral plant in Gothenburg, Sweden and will increase gradually.

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks said that the opening of orders for heavy duty electric trucks is a milestone for Volvo Trucks and has attracted customers' attention to acquire Volvo electrified trucks.

“Until now we offered customers and partners to sign a letter of intent (LOI) to buy, but now we are starting to sign firm orders, which is a big step forward for electrification,” said Roger in a statement, Thursday (5/5/). 2022).

By 2021, Volvo Trucks had received orders, including LOIs for more than 1,100 electric trucks in more than 20 countries.

Based on information, the largest markets for Volvo electric trucks in Europe are currently Norway, Sweden and Germany which make Volvo Trucks the market leader in Europe for electric heavy trucks with a market share of 42% in 2021, and also has a leading position in North America.

“It's definitely a competitive advantage to be able to offer a transportation solution without exhaust emissions that is quiet,” said Roger Alm.

With a total of six electric truck models produced this year, Volvo Trucks has the most comprehensive electric range in the global trucking industry, covering everything from municipal distribution and waste handling, to urban construction transport and regional haulage.

Volvo Trucks has also targeted that half of its total truck sales will be electric by 2030.
