Tesla has lowered prices on its remaining inventory of pre-refresh Model S and Model X vehicles in the United States, with discounts reaching as much as $12,000 on demo units. The move follows the introduction of updated versions of both models that bring a range of new features and a price increase.
The updated Model S and Model X, unveiled this week, include design enhancements, new paint options, improved suspension, and additional safety features such as a front bumper camera. These updates are accompanied by a $5,000 increase in the base price for each model.
To make room for the new lineup, Tesla is offering reduced prices on its existing stock. New Model X vehicles are now listed at under $80,000, with discounts ranging from several hundred to nearly $7,000, depending on the configuration and options. Demo units, which may have several thousand miles, are seeing steeper reductions and are priced below $75,000 in some cases.
The Model S is receiving similar price cuts. Both new and demo units are now listed starting in the mid-to-high $70,000 range, with reductions of up to $9,000 on select vehicles.
These discounts apply to vehicles produced prior to the latest update and vary based on specifications such as paint color, wheel type, and seating layout. The pricing strategy appears to target customers who are willing to purchase a premium electric vehicle at a lower cost, even if it lacks the newest design and technology upgrades.
