A study conducted by U.K. car insurance comparison service Confused.com has ranked Tesla as one of the safest car manufacturers worldwide, underscoring the growing emphasis on vehicle safety within the industry.
The study analyzed vehicle safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), reviewing 2,317 vehicles released since 2014. The findings showed that Volvo, Subaru, Tesla, Genesis, and Polestar were the top five safest car brands, with all vehicles from these manufacturers receiving a 5-star safety rating.

Tesla, which has produced 45 vehicles tested in the study, earned 5-star ratings across all models. However, the company ranked third overall, as Subaru and Volvo had a greater number of models that achieved perfect safety scores.
Rhydian Jones, motoring expert at Confused.com, commented on the safety performance of electric vehicles: “EVs generally perform well in crash tests—lacking a heavy front engine allows for more spacious crumple zones and better weight distribution, which can help prevent flipping. Both Tesla and Polestar offer a wide range of safety features, including radars and sensors for detecting external risks and onboard technology to protect you if you do crash.”
