Starbucks and Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging have opened their first jointly developed electric vehicle charging station in Red Bluff, California, marking the initial rollout of a planned fast-charging corridor along the Interstate 5 highway, the companies said. The site became operational ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving travel period and is open to all EV brands.

The Red Bluff station features high-power chargers delivering up to 400 kilowatts, enabling compatible electric vehicles to add up to around 300 miles of driving range in about 10 minutes under optimal conditions.

Each charging stall is equipped with both North American Charging Standard (NACS) and Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors, allowing drivers to charge without the need for adapters regardless of vehicle brand.

The project forms part of a broader plan to develop a continuous EV fast-charging network along the I-5 corridor, linking key travel routes from Washington state to Southern California. The companies said the partnership is designed to improve long-distance EV travel by combining high-power charging with established retail locations.

By co-locating chargers at Starbucks sites, the model allows drivers to access food, beverages and rest facilities during charging sessions, rather than relying on standalone charging hubs. Additional sites along the I-5 route are expected to be announced as the corridor expands.
