The Spanish government has approved nearly €105 million in funding to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure and support fleet electrification, reinforcing the country’s transition to zero-emission transportation under its broader España Auto 2030 strategy.
The funding package includes more than €97 million for the Moves Corredores de Recarga program, which will finance 341 charging infrastructure projects expected to install 2,674 fast-charging points along Spain’s main transport corridors.
Fast-Charging Network Receives Majority of Funding
The government said the charging projects will be implemented across 15 autonomous communities on the Iberian Peninsula, with Andalusia receiving the largest number of approved projects at 61. Castile-La Mancha will host 44 projects, followed by Galicia with 38 and Castile and León with 37.
Funding will support the construction of new charging stations as well as upgrades to existing facilities. Each charging point must provide at least 150 kilowatts of power, in line with the European Union’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR).
Project developers will have up to 36 months to complete construction, with the possibility of extending the deadline to 42 months.
Additional Support for Electric Fleets
The government also approved €7.8 million for the Moves Flotas Plus program, which will help 20 companies acquire approximately 3,700 electric vehicles and install nearly 300 charging points.
Combined, the two initiatives account for almost €105 million in public funding aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric mobility across Spain.
The funding forms part of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), which is financed through European Union recovery funds.
Spain Restructures EV Incentive Programs
The latest investment is part of a broader overhaul of Spain’s electromobility policies under the España Auto 2030 plan, which is organized around three main initiatives: consumer incentives through Plan Auto+, industrial support for electric vehicle and battery manufacturers under PERTE, and charging infrastructure development through the Moves Corredores program.
Earlier this year, Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge Minister Sara Aagesen announced that €670 million would be allocated to projects supporting the country’s energy transition, with approximately €105 million reserved for electromobility initiatives.
Spain said its Moves funding programs, launched in 2019, have so far supported the purchase of more than 204,000 electric vehicles and the installation of over 160,000 charging points nationwide. Authorities have also approved funding for 161 innovation projects related to electromobility.
Beginning in 2026, consumer purchase incentives will transition to the new Plan Auto+ program, replacing the existing Moves purchase subsidy scheme. Under the revised framework, the Spanish central government will manage subsidy applications directly rather than regional governments, with €400 million earmarked to support electric vehicle purchases.
