Sono Motors has just unveiled the design of its Sion solar electric car. In the design revealed by the German manufacturer, regarding body and interior design, production will begin in the second half of 2023.
The Zion electric compact van will be built in series by Valmet Automotive in Finland starting next year.
There are details that can be highlighted such as the redesigned headlight bands. The design of the lights on the rear has been revised and a reverse camera has been integrated into the design.
The interior has also been adapted for series production, where the freestanding infotainment display still stands out. Panels with real moss have also been made into a series design.
The Zion has 5 doors and 5 seats with each body panel covered in solar cells for a total of 456. This car uses a 120kW electric motor that produces 270Nm of torque.
The Zion has a 54kWh LFP battery that gives it a range of 190 miles (305 km) before adding an average of 16km per day and 30km per day from the installed solar panels.
The Zion can be recharged from the home plug up to 11kW or with a 75kW DC fast charger. The CCS charger will take 35 minutes, the Type 2 at 11 kW will take 5 hours and the Schuko will take a full 12.5 hours to recharge the car.
The Zion comes with bidirectional charging which means it can power equipment, it can recharge another EV or it can act as a backup generator.
Sono Motors Sion is entering the final stages of testing, going through full homologation involving NCAP crash tests. More than 19,000 people have pre-ordered. The company expects to produce 257,000 solar EVs in the next seven years.
