Smart, the brand known for its compact city cars, is reportedly working on a mid-size electric sedan, potentially positioning it as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3. The information, first reported by British automotive publication Autocar, has not been officially confirmed by Smart.
According to Autocar, the rumored vehicle, possibly named Smart #6, will be a “rakish four-door saloon” with dimensions similar to the Tesla Model 3, measuring approximately 4.70 meters in length and 2.10 meters in width, including mirrors. The sedan is expected to focus on efficiency and range, with the highest-performing variant potentially achieving over 800 kilometers under China’s CLTC test cycle, while the WLTP range could be closer to 700 kilometers.

The report suggests that the model may share its platform with the Zeekr 007, a mid-size electric sedan built on Geely’s PMA2+ architecture. Zeekr’s vehicle offers two battery options: a 75 kWh LFP battery capable of up to 688 kilometers of range (CLTC) and a 100 kWh NMC battery with a reported 870-kilometer range. Fast-charging capabilities of up to 400 kW and powertrain configurations of up to 475 kW in an all-wheel-drive version are also noted. Given that Smart’s #5 SUV is already based on the PMA2+ platform, speculation about a sedan utilizing the same architecture has emerged.
However, previous reports from Autocar regarding Smart’s potential new models have been met with skepticism. Some claims, such as those regarding a small electric roadster and hybrid variants of the Smart #5, were later refuted by Smart Europe’s CEO Dirk Adelmann. With no official statement from the automaker, industry observers are treating the latest claims with caution.

“For the sake of completeness, however, it should be mentioned that the first rumors about a #6 as an electric saloon were already circulating in early 2024,” the report states, referencing prior speculation by Spanish automotive site motor.es, which had likened the rumored sedan to the Polestar 2.
