Slovakia will install at least 228 ultra-fast charging points along its Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) as part of a government-funded initiative led by state-owned company MH Invest, according to an announcement by the Slovak Ministry of Economy.
The project, financed through the Slovak Recovery and Resilience Plan under its Sustainable Transport component, will be implemented in two phases. The first phase involves the development of high-voltage infrastructure and transformer stations along the TEN-T corridor, followed by the installation of charging stations. Passenger vehicle chargers will deliver a minimum output of 300 kW, while commercial vehicle chargers will offer at least 400 kW.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Saková described the initiative as a major step toward Slovakia’s integration into the European charging infrastructure. “Slovakia, as part of the TEN-T network, plays an important role in international transport. The construction of ultra-fast charging stations will strengthen its integration into the European charging system and increase competitiveness in the field of ecological mobility,” Saková said.
While the government has not disclosed the total funding allocated for the project or a timeline for completion, the initiative aligns with the European Union’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which mandates charging stations every 60 km for passenger vehicles and every 120 km for trucks and buses along major highways by 2026.

MH Invest will oversee land acquisition in cooperation with the National Highway Company and will manage the public procurement process for infrastructure development. However, details regarding specific locations and the distribution of chargers between electric cars and heavy-duty vehicles remain unclear.
The expansion of Slovakia’s charging network is expected to boost electric mobility adoption and support cross-border EV travel within the European transport system.
