Rivian has released a new software update for its R1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 electric vehicles aimed at improving ride comfort during low-speed driving. The update, version 2025.10, is designed to enhance the suspensionās responsiveness to uneven surfaces, particularly in urban and off-road conditions.
The latest changes are most noticeable when drivers select softer ride settings. The refinement is enabled by Rivianās vertically integrated approach to hardware and software development, which allows for ongoing system enhancements through over-the-air updates.

Central to the upgrade is the company’s hydraulic roll control system, which replaces traditional anti-roll bars. The system uses hydraulically linked circuits at each wheel and a pump that adjusts pressure based on the selected driving mode. This setup helps isolate the vehicle body from disturbances caused by road imperfections.
A feature of the suspension system, known as the comfort valve, allows for greater wheel independence at low speeds by remaining open to absorb bumps and vibrations. During cornering, the system can close these valves rapidly to maintain vehicle stability.

The 2025.10 update includes improved algorithms that more effectively detect low-speed bumps and jolts. By analyzing sensor data from around the vehicle, the system adjusts damping behavior in real time to deliver a smoother experience. At higher speeds, the system retains its ability to stiffen the suspension to support handling and stability.
