Renault has introduced a rugged off-road show car based on its upcoming Renault 4 E-Tech Electric, presenting the concept vehicle alongside the French Open tennis tournament.
The Renault 4 Savane 4×4 Concept features dual motors for all-wheel drive, a raised chassis, and design elements that pay tribute to the brand’s historical models.
While the production version of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric has yet to launch, the concept gives a glimpse into what a more adventurous variant could look like.
The show car sits 15 millimetres higher than the standard model and boasts special off-road tyres, wider tracks (10 mm per side at the front and rear), and a second electric motor on the rear axle for permanent all-wheel drive.
Renault did not disclose further technical details, but said the concept is meant to “demonstrate the potential of the AmpR Small platform for a fully electric B-segment model with all-wheel drive.”
The off-roader revives the Savane name, first used by Renault in the 1950s and later on a 1986 off-road version of the original Renault 4. The Jade Green paintwork, combined with black bumpers and pronounced wheel arches, aims to evoke a modern-retro aesthetic.
The fabric roof, printed with pixelated patterns to mimic camouflage, adds to the visual flair. Renault also replaced traditional bump stops with 3D-printed shock-absorbing parts on the front and rear.
Renault will also showcase the Renault 5 Turbo 3E at the French Open, a high-performance electric tribute to the brand’s rally heritage. Limited to 1,980 units, the €160,000 model has already received over 700 customer reservations and 200 dealer allocations, according to the company.
