Renault is set to bring back the iconic R5 Turbo as an electric sports car, unveiling further details about the limited-edition R5 Turbo 3E.
The French automaker will produce only 1,980 units in a nod to the original Renault 5 Turboās launch year, with orders opening in the coming weeks and deliveries slated for the first half of 2027.

Revealed as a concept at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, the R5 Turbo 3E blends retro styling with modern technology. The vehicle features a lightweight carbon structure and an 800-volt system enabling ultra-fast charging.
Equipped with two rear-wheel hub motors producing a combined 540 hp, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 3.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 270 kph. A steering wheel button provides a temporary power boost for overtaking, while four driving modesāSnow, Regular, Sport, and Raceāadjust performance settings, including a drift assist function.

The R5 Turbo 3E measures 4.08 meters in length, 2.03 meters in width, and 1.38 meters in height. Renault describes it as “as long as a city car and as wide as a supercar.” The vehicle is powered by a 70 kWh battery and supports charging up to 350 kW, allowing a 15-80% charge in just 15 minutes. Renault has not disclosed range and consumption figures.
Developed with Alpineās expertise, the R5 Turbo 3E is part of a three-model lineup alongside the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric and Alpine A290. “This project showcases Alpineās engineering and innovation in electric sports cars,” said Philippe Krief, CEO of Alpine and CTO of Renault Group.
