Renault has expanded its Renault 5 E-Tech Electric lineup with the introduction of a new battery version, the ‘Urban Range,’ featuring a 40 kWh battery.

This version is designed to lower the entry price of the small electric vehicle, although the long-awaited €25,000 model will not be available until next year.

The ‘Urban Range’ version, available with the new ‘Evolution’ trim, starts at €27,900, making the Renault 5 accessible for under €30,000. Renault previously offered the 52-kWh battery variant, starting at €32,900. The 40-kWh version differs not only in battery capacity but also in equipment.

While initially set for release in 2025, the ‘Urban Range’ battery is now available with the ‘Evolution’ trim, alongside plans for a €24,900 entry-level ‘Five’ trim in 2025.

In addition to the ‘Evolution’ trim, Renault offers the 40-kWh battery in the ‘Techno’ trim, priced from €29,900, and the ‘Iconic Five’ trim, priced from €31,400. This shows that, despite the smaller battery, the difference in price is mainly due to the equipment level, with the ‘Evolution’ trim offering a more affordable configuration.

In other markets, prices vary: in France, the car is advertised at €23,900, including a €4,000 eco-bonus, while in the UK, the model is listed at £22,995, available for order starting in January 2025. In Austria, the Renault 5 starts at €21,990, including a €5,400 subsidy.

The 40-kWh ‘Urban Range’ version delivers a WLTP range of 312 kilometers, while the 52-kWh ‘Comfort Range’ offers up to 410 kilometers. The ‘Evolution’ trim comes with a range of standard features, including 18-inch steel wheels with covers, the OpenR Link multimedia system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a host of comfort and safety features like rear parking sensors, keyless entry, and automatic climate control.

Additionally, customers can select vibrant color options like ‘Pop Green,’ ‘Pop Yellow,’ ‘Black Pearl-Black,’ or ‘Pearl White,’ with some colors available for an extra charge. Optional upgrades include a winter package and a V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) adapter.
