Dacia Spring to Receive a 2024 Makeover, Enhancing Appeal in Competitive EV Market

Dacia, renowned for its affordability, plans to revamp the Dacia Spring, one of Europe’s most cost-effective electric vehicles (EVs), in 2024. This strategic move aims to attract more customers in an increasingly crowded EV market.

The Dacia Spring, manufactured in China and imported to Europe, initially debuted in the European market in 2021 as the most affordable new EV on sale. With a compact size, seating capacity for four individuals, and a length of just 147.2 inches (3,740 millimeters), the baby SUV garnered attention. Its starting price of approximately $22,700 (20,800 Euro) made it an enticing option, especially with incentives in select European countries lowering the purchase cost to as little as $13,000 (12,000 Euro). Consequently, the Dacia Spring became an ideal choice as a second car or even as the primary city runabout for families.

Equipped with a modest 44-horsepower electric motor and an estimated WLTP-rated range of 140 miles (230 kilometers), the current Dacia Spring fulfills its purpose at an affordable price point.

However, David Durand, the design head at Dacia, recently expressed his views on the vehicle’s design, stating that the Chinese-manufactured hatchback lacks a contemporary touch and should better embody the electric trend. This comment arises despite the mild facelift the Spring received for the 2023 model year, which introduced a more powerful Extreme variant boasting 64 horsepower.

It’s worth noting that the next-generation Dacia Spring will continue to be built on Renault Group’s CMF-A platform, as previously reported in 2022. Consequently, it will not share the same platform as the upcoming Renault 4 and Renault 5 models, which will utilize the CMF-B platform.

Since its introduction in 2021, Dacia has successfully sold around 120,000 units of the compact EV in Europe.

As always, we eagerly await your thoughts on this development. Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section below.
