Ram Confirms 1500 Electric Pickup Concept Will Debut This Year

Early in 2022, Ram announced it was working on a fully electric pickup truck with mass production scheduled to begin in 2024, but an actual debut date has not been announced. Although there is no debut date for the production version yet, it looks like the concept of the pickup will be revealed before the end of 2022.

Ram’s CEO, Mike Koval, said a concept design would arrive before the 2024 timeframe and motordotcom confirmed the information with a Ram spokesman, although the exact date for 2022 is still unknown. Similarly, it’s unclear if this will be a production concept.

Ram is still gathering understanding of what customers want through a series of events called the Ram Real Talk, where automaker representatives interact directly with the public regarding electric trucks.

A teaser image from last March provides a hint at the 1500 EV’s design direction. While the Ford F-150 Lightning still looks a lot like a standard F-Series truck, the Ram could follow a similar direction to the Chevrolet Silverado EV.

The Ram Electric Pickup looks set to feature a shorter hood with a large four-door cab. Behind the cabin, the smooth corners of the pillars reveal the simple design of the fastback. A big red line with bold RAM letters is envisioned on the tailgate, with bolder branding up front on the grille.

Of course, this is just a teaser sketch. There’s still plenty of time for the Ram’s designers to revamp the concept before it debuts this year, especially since the pickup won’t start production until 2024.
