Autonomous driving technology firm Pony.ai will begin robotaxi trials in Singapore’s Punggol district in the fourth quarter of 2025, the company announced, as part of a new partnership with local transport operator ComfortDelGro.
The initiative, backed by a memorandum of understanding signed in July 2024, aims to lay the groundwork for large-scale commercial autonomous vehicle operations in the city-state. The trials will deploy Pony.ai’s seventh-generation autonomous driving system, which the company says uses 100% automotive-grade components and has achieved a 70% reduction in Bill-of-Materials costs — a milestone the firm believes is essential for mass deployment.
“Punggol will serve as a testbed to evaluate which types of autonomous vehicles are most suitable for our roads,” Singapore’s Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow said during a visit to Pony.ai’s Guangzhou R&D center on June 27. The Singapore delegation also included representatives from the Land Transport Authority and other industry bodies.
The robotaxi pilot in Singapore follows a similar program launched in Guangzhou in March 2025. Pony.ai plans to scale its autonomous fleet to 1,000 vehicles by the end of 2025, partnering with automakers including Toyota, BAIC, and GAC to achieve this target.
The partnership leverages ComfortDelGro’s extensive transport operations expertise alongside Pony.ai’s AI-powered driving technology. With Singapore viewed as a favorable environment for autonomous vehicle development—thanks to its advanced infrastructure and supportive policy framework—the pilot is seen as a potential model for future urban deployments.
