The Polestar 5 will be added to the racing simulator Gran Turismo 7 in a free December update for PlayStation 4 and PS5 players, the Swedish electric carmaker announced at the Los Angeles stop of the Gran Turismo World Series.

The update coincides with a special in-game time trial event, with the winner earning a trip to Fukuoka, Japan, for the World Finals of the GT World Series.

Kazunori Yamauchi, producer of the Gran Turismo series, praised Polestar’s vehicles for their “advanced, clean, and elegant designs.” The Polestar 5, which delivers up to 884 horsepower, was developed in close collaboration with Polyphony Digital to ensure realistic handling.

Professional race car driver Igor Fraga, a multiple Gran Turismo World Series champion, tested prototype vehicles at Polestar’s Swedish development center and at Brands Hatch in England, providing feedback that was incorporated into the game’s simulation.

Joakim Rydholm, Polestar’s head of driving dynamics, said, “Working with the Gran Turismo team to ensure the digital ‘feel’ of the Polestar 5 was as close as possible to the real thing was a really important step for us. The end result means the digital car 100% replicates the behind-the-wheel experience of the real Polestar 5, meaning GT racers will have just as much fun as buyers of the actual cars.”

Polestar also plans to release a documentary about the collaboration on YouTube when the in-game time trial goes live.
