Polestar has become the first automaker to integrate Google Maps’ live lane guidance into a production vehicle, introducing the AI-powered navigation feature in the Polestar 4. The new system enhances navigation accuracy through real-time lane visualization directly displayed on the car’s 10.2-inch driver screen.

The live lane guidance uses Google’s artificial intelligence to interpret lane markings, traffic signs, and camera input from the Polestar 4’s forward-facing sensors. It shows the current lane the vehicle occupies and highlights which lanes to take for upcoming maneuvers, aiming to make navigation clearer and reduce last-minute lane changes.

“Live lane guidance continues Polestar’s driver-centric UX strategy, reducing driver stress and improving safety by making missed exits and last-minute lane changes much less of a worry,” said Sid Odedra, Head of UI/UX at Polestar. The feature will roll out via over-the-air (OTA) updates, first in the United States and Sweden, before expanding to other markets.

Andrew Foster, Director of Product Management for Google Maps, said: “Polestar 4 will be the first to integrate our groundbreaking live lane guidance, helping people drive with even more confidence and setting a new benchmark for navigation across the auto industry.”

The new integration extends Polestar’s collaboration with Google, which began with the Polestar 2 — the first vehicle to launch with Google built-in in 2020. The company continues to emphasize digital innovation within its software-defined vehicle strategy.
