UK electric vehicle charging provider Pod Point has acquired fleet charging specialist EO Charging following the company’s entry into administration earlier this year.

Pod Point, which is backed by French energy company EDF, said the acquisition would strengthen its commercial fleet and depot charging operations as demand for electric transport infrastructure grows in the United Kingdom.

EO Charging entered administration in April 2026 after operating for roughly a decade and pursuing international expansion plans into markets including the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Italy.

The company had secured $80 million in funding in 2023 to support expansion in North America and counted major fleet operators including Amazon, Uber, DHL and Tesco among its customers.

However, EO Charging reportedly struggled to achieve profitability while competing in the commercial fleet and supermarket charging sectors.

Pod Point said the acquisition would enhance its capabilities in logistics, transport and operational fleet charging services.

The acquired business includes EO Charging’s depot charging software and energy management technologies designed to help fleet operators manage charging performance, optimise electricity use and support large-scale electric vehicle operations.

Pod Point said commercial vehicle fleets are expected to play an increasingly important role in the UK’s transition toward electric mobility.

The company also highlighted EO Charging’s development of ISO 15118-compliant charging technology capable of supporting smart AC charging for older fleet electric vehicles that do not fully comply with the communication standard.

Pod Point already operates in the smart charging segment, including services that support grid balancing and energy demand management.

The company said overnight depot charging presents growing opportunities to improve energy system flexibility by shifting electricity consumption away from peak demand periods and increasing use of renewable energy.

Pod Point added that existing EO Charging customers would continue receiving uninterrupted service following the acquisition.

According to the company, the transaction strengthens its position in the UK electric vehicle charging market.

Philippe Commaret, managing director for customers at EDF, said the acquisition aligned with the company’s electrification strategy.

“EDF’s purpose is to enable a more electric Britain. Helping our business customers reduce their bills and increase their competitiveness is central to our strategy,” Commaret said.

“This acquisition allows our Pod subsidiary to help vehicle fleets benefit from electrification, improving their efficiency while also reducing their carbon emissions,” he added.

The deal comes as charging providers increasingly expand into fleet and depot charging services to support the electrification of commercial transportation across Europe.
