Einride is expanding its battery-electric freight operations for Lidl in Sweden, with electric trucks set to cover approximately 832,000 kilometres annually under the enlarged partnership. The expansion increases annual mileage by 76% from 474,000 kilometres and extends the operation beyond regional deliveries around Stockholm to longer routes across several parts of Sweden.
Electric Freight Network Expands Beyond Stockholm
Einride and Lidl have worked together on electrifying Swedish logistics since 2020, with the initial programme concentrated mainly around the greater Stockholm area.

The expanded operation will cover Värmland, Östergötland, Mälardalen and Dalarna, as well as parts of Västergötland and Småland.
The broader geographic footprint will increase the distance travelled by Einride’s electric trucks for Lidl from 474,000 to 832,000 kilometres per year.
The operational change also extends the role of battery-electric trucks from shorter regional transport to longer freight routes.
Einride Combines Trucks, Charging and Software
Einride manages the transport operation through its Freight Capacity as a Service (FCaaS) model, combining electric trucks and charging infrastructure with its Saga AI planning and optimisation platform.
The software uses operational and customer data to optimise vehicle requirements and energy consumption, with the aim of reducing transport costs.

The company is using the expanded Lidl operation to demonstrate how electric trucks, charging infrastructure and software can be integrated into larger freight networks.
“Since we started working with them in Stockholm, we’ve seen that electric transport can be both operationally efficient and cost-competitive,” said Rasmus Laursen, Head of Logistics at Lidl SE. “This expansion lets us bring that same model to more regions and it is a clear step forward in our commitment to sustainable supply chains.”
Lidl Continues Logistics Electrification
The expansion comes as Lidl parent Schwarz Group maintains electrification efforts in logistics despite changes to its fleet strategy in other areas.
The group has temporarily stopped purchasing new battery-electric company cars in Germany, while electric freight transport continues to develop in Sweden and other European markets.
Battery-electric trucks are already operating for Lidl in several European countries, making logistics one of the areas where the retailer continues to deploy electric vehicles.
Longer Routes Test Electric Freight at Greater Scale
For Einride and Lidl, the expansion represents the next stage of their six-year cooperation.
The higher annual mileage and longer routes are intended to demonstrate that battery-electric trucks can operate beyond regional delivery applications. Einride is also highlighting the economic performance of the model, positioning electric freight as an increasingly scalable alternative to diesel-powered transport.
“This expansion with Lidl demonstrates a key inflection point for electric freight, not as a future ambition, but as a scalable, economically compelling reality,” said Carl Ceder, Vice President Region Nordics at Einride. “What we see is a structural shift in how freight capacity is delivered, where software, infrastructure, and electrification converge to unlock operational efficiency and long-term value for our customers.”
The expanded operation gives Einride and Lidl a larger real-world deployment across Sweden while combining electric trucks with dedicated charging and digital freight optimisation.
