Charging software provider Pionix said it has completed a funding round of more than €8 million to scale its open-source EV charging products worldwide. The investment will support the “EVerest” software stack, designed to standardize and accelerate the development of charging infrastructure.
The round was led by Ascend Capital Partners, with participation from Start-up BW Seed Fund, Pale Blue Dot, Vireo Ventures, Axeleo Ventures, and other investors. Pionix said the funding will also expand its enterprise offerings, including Pionix Cloud, a backend software for EV chargers, and ChargeBridge, a plug-and-play hardware module for simplified integration.
“Reliability isn’t just a nice-to-have for EV charging – it’s fundamental to the e-mobility transition,” said Marco Möller, founder and CEO of Pionix. “The fragmented landscape of incompatible systems and high error rates has slowed the transition for too long, but open source offers a sustainable solution. With EVerest at the core and our Pionix Cloud services and ChargeBridge hardware on top, we make it radically simpler to build, integrate and operate chargers that just work – every time. That’s what the industry needs to deliver a transition that sticks.”
Pionix originally launched the open-source EVerest platform through the Linux Foundation Energy (LF Energy) in 2021 to improve interoperability across EV charging systems. The platform, now supported by more than 600 contributors from over 70 organizations, underpins industrial-grade deployments such as Amperfied’s Dynamic DC charging stations.
Pionix aims for the platform to operate “hundreds of thousands of chargers globally,” addressing industry challenges including reliability issues and up to 25% session error rates caused by fragmented proprietary systems.
