Pilot Company, General Motors, and EVgo have expanded their fast-charging network to more than 130 locations across 25 U.S. states, the companies said. The initiative, aimed at supporting long-distance electric vehicle (EV) travel, is set to grow to as many as 500 sites along key interstate highways and major travel routes.
The network currently includes charging hubs along the I-75 corridor from Michigan to Georgia, as well as other high-traffic routes such as Dallas to Nashville, Detroit to Cleveland, Minneapolis to Milwaukee, and San Antonio to Houston. The companies plan to install charging stations at approximately 50-mile intervals across the country to enhance accessibility for EV drivers.

The collaboration, first announced in 2022, has led to the deployment of charging infrastructure at Pilot and Flying J locations. Each hub is equipped with overhead canopies and pull-through charging stalls to accommodate larger vehicles and trailers. The sites also provide amenities such as lounges, on-site food options, and restrooms. EVgo, General Motors’ charging partner, installs and operates 350kW fast chargers at the locations, which it says can recharge an EV in about 15 minutes. Each site offers an average of four charging points, while GM’s app enables users to locate stations along their routes.
“By expanding fast-charging access along major travel routes, our work with Pilot Company and EVgo will give EV drivers more confidence to take long trips with ease,” said Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy. “With more than 130 locations now open, which customers can easily find using the GM brand app, we’re helping ensure that charging is seamless and convenient – so drivers can focus on the adventure ahead.”

Shannon Sturgil, senior vice president of alternative fuels at Pilot, said the partnership is helping meet growing demand for highway-based charging. “As we strive to be the leading energy and experience provider people rely on to fuel their journeys, our travel centers are uniquely able to fill a need for EV owners who are looking to make the most of their miles,” Sturgil said.
The three companies launched the network’s first 17 locations in 2023 and are continuing to expand the infrastructure to reach their long-term goal of 500 charging hubs nationwide.
