Overland AI, a Seattle-based developer of autonomous off-road technology, has been selected to participate in the U.S. Army’s UxS Autonomous Maneuver Program, the company said on Monday. The initiative, awarded through the National Advanced Mobility Consortium, will assess the integration of commercial autonomy solutions into the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV).
The program will run a six-month evaluation with a Transforming in Contact unit, focusing on reliability, robustness and operational impact of autonomy in real-world scenarios. “UxS is a significant milestone in shaping the Army’s ground autonomy portfolio,” said Stephanie Bonk, Overland AI’s co-founder and president.
Overland, founded in 2022, has developed autonomous systems capable of high-speed maneuvering across challenging terrain, drawing on experience from the DARPA RACER program. “Our goal is to deliver reliable off-road capabilities while building Soldier trust,” Bonk added. CEO Byron Boots said the company is focused on “rapid innovation and tackling unsolved autonomy challenges.”
The ISV platform is designed for mobility and modularity, making it adaptable for diverse missions. Chris Higgins, Overland’s director of business development, said reliable autonomy was urgent to “reduce risks and enhance Soldier effectiveness.”
Overland also supports projects with the Marine Corps, Special Operations Command, the Defense Innovation Unit and Army Futures Command, aiming to provide scalable uncrewed ground systems across military branches.
