Opel has revealed a special concept version of its new electric SUV, the Frontera, at the XS Carnight tuning event at Lake Wörthersee. The show car, dubbed the Frontera Gravel, is designed to showcase what a more rugged, off-road-focused edition of the electric vehicle could look like, though series production is not currently planned.
First introduced as a successor to the Crossland, the new Frontera blends a more SUV-oriented design inspired by its 1990s namesake with electric and hybrid powertrain options. With the Gravel edition, Opel is pushing the model’s adventurous appeal further, presenting a tougher aesthetic aimed at off-road enthusiasts and design-conscious consumers.

“The new Opel Frontera is already standout. It is rugged, practical, and perfect for families and everyday adventures,” said Opel Marketing Director Rebecca Reinermann. “But with the Frontera Gravel show car, we’ve pushed the limits, imagining a tougher, more daring, trailblazing version.”
The Gravel concept was developed by Opel’s Rüsselsheim design team in collaboration with tuning partners BlackFish and XS. It features a “Desert Stone” exterior wrap paired with matte black elements and orange accents across the mirrors, bumpers, and Opel’s Vizor badge. Functional enhancements include a winch, front hook, roof-mounted storage rack, and auxiliary lighting – additions meant to signal off-road readiness.

While Opel described the Frontera Gravel as a one-off for XS Carnight, the vehicle may serve as a test case for future customer interest in more specialized, adventure-ready variants of its electric lineup.
