Changan Automobile’s electric vehicle brand Deepal has opened pre-sales for the updated S05 sport utility vehicle in China, introducing upgraded intelligent driving technology and new hardware to one of the company’s core battery-electric models.
The revamped Deepal S05 is available with pre-sale prices ranging from 119,900 yuan (approximately US$17,660) to 151,900 yuan. During the promotional period, customers who place a 1,000-yuan deposit can receive purchase incentives valued at 2,000 yuan.
Updated S05 Adds LiDAR and New Computing Platform
The updated lineup comprises five variants with pre-sale prices of 119,900 yuan, 129,900 yuan, 139,900 yuan, 141,900 yuan and 151,900 yuan.
Higher-specification versions are equipped with a 128-channel LiDAR sensor supplied by Hesai, marking a significant upgrade over the previous model.
The new S05 is powered by two Horizon Robotics J6M processors that enable urban navigation-assisted driving functions.
Deepal Chairman Deng Chenghao previously said the vehicle’s smart cockpit has also been upgraded with a 3-nanometer automotive processor, delivering faster system performance and improved responsiveness.
The pre-sale campaign runs from July 30 through August 6 in China ahead of the model’s official launch.
Battery-Electric Powertrain Offers Up to 620 Kilometers of Range
The updated S05 is currently offered exclusively as a battery-electric vehicle.
Customers can choose between battery packs with capacities of 56.12 kilowatt-hours and 68.82 kilowatt-hours, delivering China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) driving ranges of 520 kilometers and 620 kilometers, respectively.
Deepal originally introduced the S05 in October 2024 with a starting price of 116,900 yuan.
Although the revised model’s entry price is 3,000 yuan higher, the increase reflects the addition of new intelligent driving hardware and other equipment upgrades. Vehicle manufacturers in China frequently announce final retail prices below pre-sale levels when models officially enter the market.
Overseas Expansion Supports Brand Growth
Deepal was launched by Changan Automobile in 2022 as the company’s dedicated new energy vehicle brand.
Its current portfolio includes the SL03, L06 and L07 sedans, together with the S05, S07, S09 and G318 sport utility vehicles.
The brand delivered 33,625 vehicles globally in June, representing a 12.5% increase from the same month a year earlier and a 1.2% improvement compared with May.
During the first six months of the year, Deepal sold 164,156 vehicles worldwide, up 14.6% year on year.
Since its establishment, the brand has delivered approximately 900,000 vehicles, with international markets becoming an increasingly important contributor to its overall sales growth.
