Nio’s sub-brand Onvo introduced its flagship SUV, the L90, on the opening day of the 2025 Shanghai auto show, as the Chinese electric vehicle maker looks to broaden its product lineup and compete in the high-end family SUV segment.

The L90, a three-row electric SUV, will become Onvo’s second production model and is set to launch in the third quarter of 2025. With a length of 5,145 mm, a wheelbase of 3,110 mm, and class-leading storage features, Onvo is targeting families looking for both space and performance.

The L90 can accommodate seven 20-inch suitcases in the rear and two additional suitcases in the 240-liter frunk, which Onvo claims is the largest of any vehicle currently available in China.

“By integrating 49 components into our thermal management system, we’ve maximized usable space while maintaining performance,” said Eric Yu, Onvo’s head of product. The frunk also includes convenience features such as one-touch operation and gesture-based opening.

The L90 will offer both single- and dual-motor variants developed by Nio’s XPT division, with battery packs sourced from BYD, CATL, and CALB. Unlike the smaller L60, the L90 comes standard with an 85-kWh battery pack, reflecting the model’s higher-end positioning.

Onvo’s expansion continues with plans to launch a third model, the L80, in the fourth quarter. The L90 will also mark the first launch under new Onvo president Shen Fei, who recently succeeded Alan Ai.
