Li Auto has introduced a lower-priced rear-wheel-drive version of its all-electric Li i8 sport utility vehicle (SUV), expanding the model lineup as the company seeks to improve demand following a slower-than-expected market reception.
The new Li i8 Rear-Drive Long Range starts at 309,800 yuan ($45,630), making it 30,000 yuan less expensive than the previously launched all-wheel-drive high-performance model, which remains priced at 339,800 yuan.
New Entry-Level Model Targets Broader Market
The latest addition gives buyers a more affordable entry point into Li Auto’s first fully electric SUV while retaining most of the flagship model’s premium features.
Unlike the dual-motor version, the Rear-Drive Long Range uses a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 250kW (335hp).
The model accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 6.6 seconds, compared with 4.5 seconds for the all-wheel-drive variant.
Longer Range with Lower Energy Consumption
Despite its lower price, the new version uses the same 97.8kWh ternary lithium battery pack found in the dual-motor model.
The battery supports 5C ultra-fast charging, allowing the vehicle to add 500 kilometres of driving range in approximately 10 minutes under compatible charging conditions.
The Rear-Drive Long Range delivers a CLTC driving range of 780 kilometres, extending driving distance by 60 kilometres compared with the all-wheel-drive version.
Its energy consumption is rated at 13.6kWh per 100 kilometres, lower than the 14.8kWh per 100 kilometres recorded by the dual-motor model.
Li Auto said its nationwide supercharging network has now expanded to more than 4,100 charging stations across China.
Premium Features Remain Standard
Apart from the powertrain configuration, the new model shares most of its equipment with the higher-priced version.
It retains dual-chamber air suspension, a double-wishbone front suspension, a five-link rear suspension, LiDAR, and the NVIDIA Drive Thor-U assisted-driving processor.
The single-motor variant first appeared in filings published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in June, signalling the company’s plans to broaden the lineup.
Limited-Time Purchase Incentives
Alongside the launch, Li Auto introduced promotional offers available through August 31, with total benefits valued at up to 35,750 yuan.
The incentives include three-year interest-free financing or low-interest loan options, a complimentary upgrade to front-row zero-gravity seats valued at 20,000 yuan, and a 10,000-yuan cash discount for existing Li Auto owners purchasing another vehicle.
The new variant represents Li Auto’s latest effort to strengthen sales of the Li i8 by combining a lower entry price with longer driving range while maintaining the model’s core technology and premium equipment.
