Ola Electric, the Indian electric vehicle maker best known for its S1 scooter, has outlined plans to bring its first high-performance motorcycle, the Diamondhead, to market in 2027, aiming to position itself against established global electric superbike brands.
The company revealed the Diamondhead as one of four motorcycle concepts alongside a cruiser, an adventure model, and a naked bike. The sportbike drew the most attention with its sharp, angular design and futuristic fairing. Ola says the model will be powered by its in-house developed 4680 Bharat cell battery pack and a rare-earth-free electric motor, supported by lightweight materials including aluminum, magnesium and carbon fiber.
Performance targets include a 0–60 mph acceleration time of two seconds, placing the motorcycle in direct competition with models such as the Energica Ego+ RS and Zero’s SR/S. Ola has not released detailed specifications, but industry analysts suggest it will require a battery capacity in the 20 kWh range and output of 150–170 hp to match its performance claims.
Energica’s Ego+ RS offers 171 hp, a top speed of 150 mph, and up to 260 miles of city range from a 22 kWh battery. Zero’s SR/S, meanwhile, delivers a top speed of 124 mph with a 17.3 kWh pack good for around 187 miles. Ola’s Diamondhead, if delivered as promised, could become India’s first electric sportbike designed for global markets.
Ola Electric has faced challenges since launching its S1 scooter, including recalls, customer service complaints and concerns over reliability. Analysts note that while the Diamondhead’s design and performance goals have generated excitement, much will depend on the company’s ability to execute.
